How long have you been on DeviantArt?
Since just before I started working here, so almost 4 years.
What does your username mean?
It's pretty unoriginal -- I live in Vancouver, on the west coast of Canada where it rains a lot. My name is Chris. And, as it happens, the day I joined I was munching on a certain local snack...
Describe yourself in three words.
Japanophilic data hacker.
Are you left or right handed?
Very much right handed. Though, apparently I play pool left handed (I guess because i hold the cue the way that felt natural coming from holding a hockey stick or a baseball bat).
What is your favourite type of art to create?
I guess I'd have to say photography, though historically I've had the most fun with architectural drawings and fantasy map illustration. I've learned my creations inevitably end up being more like diagrams than individualistic expressions.
If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?
Watercolour. There's something in the flowingly organic character of watercolour that embodies the polar opposite of anything I set out to create. If I could instantly master that style, I feel like I'd have opened myself up to a new way of seeing the world.
What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?
There seem to be a mix of black-and-white photography with a gritty/industrial edge, surrealist art, and works with oriental influence.
Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist?
That's a hard one, I don't know if I can pick one. I tend to spend a lot of time using Undiscovered, which I suppose means I spend more time looking for new discoveries than focusing on all-time favourites.
If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?
Similarly, a hard one. I've been fortunate enough to meet most of the staff, but haven't met nearly as many of the community members that make DA the awesome place it is. I really need to get out to a DeviantMeet, and meet whoever's there!
How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?
mccann is unequivocally, if indirectly, responsible for the existence of a well-stocked (and well-used) cocktail bar in my apartment.
What are your preferred tools to create art?
Python. If code can be art.
What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?
Anywhere I can avoid too much chatter, but still have a constant din of background noise. Can't be too hot (no LA for me) nor too quiet (rules out the family farm). My balcony on a breezy summer day like today is pretty much ideal.
What is your favourite DeviantArt memory?
Hrm... I have several great memories from DT's various offsites, but the late night gaming session trezoid mentions in his DeviantArtist Questionnaire is definitely a contender. Though, my memory doesn't involve as unilateral a victory as his journal would suggest...
